As we are now bang in the middle of Summer this means we are now reaching the point when fly life around the waters of the UK is reaching it’s climax. The Red Spinner is a pattern designed to represent the spent (dead or dying) spinners that are more present towards the later part of a summer day.

Best fished: Late afternoon to dusk on a floating line with a long degreased leader on the surface of the water or river. Fish this fly static as this pattern is mainly representing spent or nearly spent flies. Also try the Red Spinner earlier in the day as this imitative pattern also performs well when used to represent recently hatched, fully winged adult flies – doubling its versatility on the water!
