The Claret Pennell Wet Fly is part of a small range of patterns.  The Claret Pennell makes a passable imitation of a Midge Pupa.  It could be held to represent any number of black midges and beetles to be found in still waters and many anglers include a Claret Pennell on their cast.  Also, an excellent pattern for Sea Trout.
